Park History

The Munich Park was dedicated on July 15, 1971. A 50th anniversary celebration was held on June 26, 2021, with a meal at the park, afternoon activities and a street dance at night. We incorporated a Munich School reunion with it and had over 500 in attendance for the meal.

When the park was started it was a slough. Our community farmers gave their time, trucks, equipment, and dirt to fill the area donated by the Munich Public School District. They brought in over one thousand truckloads of dirt.

A tennis court on the east side was completed with a fence surrounding it and is still there today. It has been resurfaced a few times as recently as the summer of 2020. It has six basketball hoops, and a net with lines painted for tennis and pickleball.

There is a canopy built on a cement slab for a picnic area to get out of the sun. There are charcoal grill stations throughout the middle to west side of the park, and horseshoe sticks to play a game.

The playground equipment was condemned years ago as unsafe, so with the help of donations from Bayer-Monsanto, local citizens, and local and surrounding area businesses new playground equipment was installed in 2014.

The park built a 4-unit RV Park and remodeled it recently to be eight units. It has restrooms with showers. This is on the north end of the park. There is also a ball diamond adjoining to the north of the park. Just recently the park took on the responsibility of maintaining the buildings at the ball diamond. There is a concession building, two dugouts, one bat and ball supply room, and a building that has two bathrooms, one for women and one for men, with a supply room in between.

The park also has a shed to house the equipment and tools in.

Flowers are planted every spring to add a little color and the board is always in planning mode to improve the grounds or buildings.

Seth Hanson mows the grass on the park grounds, the campground, and the baseball diamond. They always look great! Both Seth and Duane Schuler mow other areas of the city as well and keep them looking great too!
